Chicken Soup for the Soul Celebrates Release of 101st Title

September marks the release of the 101st book in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, Chicken Soup for the Soul -- Stories for a Better World.

Series creators and New York Times bestselling authors Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen were joined by hundreds of fans and Chicken Soup authors at a special celebration to commemorate the release. Held in Las Vegas on September 16, the evening also featured a surprise announcement by Peter Vegso, of Chicken Soup publisher Health Communications, Inc. Vegso announced that HCI will be donating $101,000 to 3 different charities, all of which will go to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The original Chicken Soup for the Soul book features '101 Stories to Open the Heart and Rekindle the Spirit," notes Hansen. We have tried to include that magical number of stories in each title thereafter. The release of our 101st book holds very special significance to the series."

More than a decade ago, the publishing phenomenon that has become the bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul series was little more than an idea and a well-worn proposal that 140 publishers had rejected as "unsellable." Yet the aspiring authors, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, remained undaunted and continued combining their passion with their 10 principles for "living their dream." Today, their book series includes more than 100 titles in 39 languages that have touched the hearts and minds of more than 90 million readers worldwide.

In 1996, the newly formed Chicken Soup Enterprises, Inc., leveraging off of the success of book sales, branched into licensed products, and to date the company is responsible for over 600 million dollars of retail revenue.
