DataOne Software Implements Custom Data Normalization for Harness

DataOne Software today announced that it has successfully implemented Custom Data Normalization into its VINS Decoder Harness Service.

Custom Data Normalization will allow customers to design their own rules for how data returned from the VIN is formatted. In the past this format was largely dependent on the format of a primary data provider for the decoder, and application developers would have to include large amounts of code within their application to re-format the data returned from the decoded VIN. In many cases this has proven to be a large undertaking especially when dealing with large numbers of options; the VINS Harness Solution is able to decode over 400 pieces of vehicle installed equipment. Customers now have complete control over their returned dataset when using the DataOne Software VIN Decoding solution.

The Truth Behind the SBA's Record-breaking Numbers: One Lending Program Flourishes While the Other Flounders

The U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) 504 loan program has grown tremendously over the past five years, whereas its 7(a) loan program has been steadily decreasing in dollar volume. The 7(a) loan has played a large part in giving the SBA its problematic reputation, but the growth of the advantageous 504 loan is turning that reputation around.

Over the past three fiscal years, the number of SBA 504 loans has increased 15.44%, while the number of 7(a) loans has only gone up only 3.8%. In terms of dollar volume, the 504 loan has increased 23.6% in that same time period, while the 7(a) has actually decreased 6.2%. The 7(a) program is down over $900 million, whereas the 504 program is up nearly $1.3 billion according to statistics released late last year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

An InfoSec Theory of Business Enablement, Researchers Challenge Professionals to Find Holes and Benefits

Security as a business enabler? Perhaps. Two information security researchers claim to have developed a theory which shows how information security may be used as a business enabler. They feel this is a departure from the loss prevention perspective that dominates the field.

They have issued an open challenge to all information security professionals to find both benefits and drawbacks to their proposed theory.

Mr. Kenneth Belva and Dr. Sam Dekay wrote a paper entitled, "Creating Business Through Virtual Trust: How to Gain and Sustain a Competitive Advantage Using Information Security."

New Bankruptcy Law: How Will it Affect Victims of Katrina and Rita

Bankruptcy in the past has allowed many financially strapped Americans to default on their high debt amounts enabling them to get a fresh financial start. The new bankruptcy law which goes into effect on October 17th 2005 will allow regulators to introduce tough federal bankruptcy laws that will make it more difficult and expensive for consumers to completely wipe out their debts. According to consumer groups and advocates, the new law creates additional burden on those who were affected by the recent hurricanes and should be given special provisions to overcome their financial hardships.

What To Do If You're a Victim of Investor Fraud

A few mutual fund companies have come under the scrutiny of the SEC over the last couple of months. The primary issues revolve around illegal late trading, market timing and self-dealing. One quarter of the nation's largest brokerage houses helped clients illegally trade after hours. This benefited a select group of individuals at the expense of the vast majority of mutual fund investors. Management fees reaped by these companies were more than $50 billion.

According to Boris Parad, Principal of Parad Law Offices, consumers who have plans with the investment companies that have been charged with wrongdoing so far should consider obtaining professional and/or legal advice on their options regarding potential class action lawsuits. Even investors who seem to have suffered no exposure to any of these identified mutual fund companies should review their portfolios and question their investment advisors for possible negative impact that could be eligible for compensation of damages caused by losses due to:

In multi-class mutual funds, the primary differences among the classes of shares are the type and amount of fees charged to investors.

Mutual fund breakpoints are sales charge discounts available to customers who purchase large amounts of certain classes of shares in mutual funds that charge commissions.

Some funds will impose short- term redemption fees to discourage investors from moving in and out of them quickly.

Fund families that close their funds with regularity are a sign the fund manager does not want to take new money, because he or she feels there are not enough opportunities for new money in their portfolios.

A Genius Marketer from the 1920's Tricked Consumers into Thinking Cigarette Smoking was Glamorous - A Modern Day Marketer is Driven to Change all That

Are smokers of today aware that during World War I cigarettes were considered tasteless and unmanly? Most men preferred cigars, pipes, and chewing tobacco. At the time cigarettes proved to be more convenient in the trenches and our government began putting cigarettes in soldiers' rations. Many soldiers changed their method of acquiring tobacco shortly thereafter. Cigarettes became known as the choice of warriors, because of this simple marketing tactic used by The American Tobacco Company. As profits started to skyrocket from the increase of men's cigarette smoking, it became evident a marketing scheme must be developed to attract women smokers.

Research Supports FDA Recommendation for Medical Device Companies to Improve Total Product Lifecycle Practices

Axendia, Cambashi, and FDAnews today presented findings from their research Total Product Lifecycle Management: Lowering Costs while Increasing Quality at the Sixth Annual FDAnews Medical Device Quality Congress. The data shows that although many organizations have initiatives to shift to a total product lifecycle (TPLC) approach, a majority are still using serial design models, such as stage gate and waterfall. Companies that have adopted TPLC, quality by design, and voice-of-the-customer initiatives are more likely to have improved their cost of quality and performance to other metrics.
