Norm: Bookpleasures.com and Sketchandtravel.com are pleased to have as our guest, Brandon Wilson, author of Yak Butter Blues: A Tibetan Trek of Faith. Brandon and his wife Cheryl hiked 40 days over 1000 kilometers along an ancient pilgrimage route across Tibet. They were the first Western couple to trek this ancient route with a horse named Sadhu.
Brandon, could you tell us why you wanted to trek across Tibet--and did you ever had any fears prior to your journey?
Brandon: Our decision to attempt to trek from Lhasa, Tibet to Kathmandu sprung from the notion that this was the "ultimate" adventure. The more I read, the more I became fascinated by its remoteness, inaccessibility, and exotic reputation.

Global Air Travel Market to Reach 5.9 Trillion RPKs by 2015, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.
Air travel has become a vital part of human life owing largely to reduction in global barriers and continuous technological advancements. Over the years, air travel witnessed a plethora of technological advancements such as supersonic jets, intercontinental non-stop service, space travel, and jumbos. Since the beginning of 21st century, air travel, historically considered as a luxury, has emerged as an economic requirement. Currently, the world air traffic is registering sluggish growth owing to unfavorable global economic factors and fluctuating jet fuel prices. Though a drop in fuel prices in the fourth quarter of 2008 provided certain relief to airlines, the ongoing economic recession is the biggest challenge currently faced by airlines.
Largest Sites, Not Long Tail, Account for Majority of Online Engagement
ad:tech expositions, LLC (www.ad-tech.com), the leading conferences and exhibitions organizer for the global marketing community, revealed today that the large growth in overall usage of social media sites is driven by the largest sites. This is one of the findings from Nielsen Online's latest study on global online media, "The Global Online Media Landscape in 2009," which will be presented at the ad:tech San Francisco conference that will take place from April 21-23 at Moscone Center West.
"While the long tail has been the focus of much discussion given its importance to the growth of social media, it hasn't yet demonstrated significant growth in audience engagement," said Charles Buchwalter, Senior VP, Research & Analytics at Nielsen Online. "Over the past six years, overall time spent online has grown close to 18 percent per year, but this has been led by engagement with larger reach (i.e., short tail) sites with almost 21 percent growth."

WWII Pilot Recalls Planes, Training and Watermelons
It was 1943 and the U.S. was in the middle of World War II. Luke Field (now Luke Air Force Base) had opened two years before. Unlike today’s bustling combination of business and residential areas, the West Valley was predominately a region of cotton fields and onions.
While the terrain was an expanse of agrarian tranquility, the skies were buzzing with the sound of single-engine trainers as young aviation cadets learned the exciting, but dangerous task of flying everything from the T-6 to the P-40 War Hawk.
Walter Douglass, then an aviation cadet with the Army Air Corp who was undergoing advance pilot training at Luke Field, remembers Luke Aux 5, an air strip in Buckeye, located adjacent to the proposed Buckeye Town Center, as a training facility that was mostly used at night.

PruHealth Reveals Stressed Lifestyles Increasing During Recession
PruHealth's bi-annual Vitality Index* - which tracks the nation's health trends - has revealed that the health of the nation has declined by two points since July 2008 to a health rating of just 59%. Nearly one in five (18%) Brits now admit they live unhealthy lifestyles, an increase of four per cent in just six months.**
In the last six months the percentage of Brits saying they are under a significant amount of stress has increased from 38% to 40%. As confidence in the economy has decreased it is perhaps of little surprise that almost half (44%) of Brits report their stress levels have increased.
