For Removing Body Fat: Mesotherapy Is A Non Surgical Procedure And An Alternative To Liposuction

Over the past 20 years, obesity among adults has risen significantly in the United States. The latest data from the National Center for Health Statistics shows that 30% of U.S. adults (over 60 million people) starting from 20 years of age and older suffer from obesity. Obesity, along with the natural aging progress, has meant that increasing numbers of Americans are carrying excess weight in the form of fat.

To remove these excess fat deposits, people have traditionally turned towards liposuction. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle. It involves the use of a small stainless steel tube, called a cannula which is connected to a powerful suction pump and inserted into the fat through small incisions in the skin. Fat removal is accomplished as the suction cannula creates tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, however, these tiny tunnels collapse, potentially causing numerous side effects.

“Liposuction is associated with certain common side-effects such as bruising, swelling and temporary numbness,” said J. Shah, M.D. the founder and medical director of the Amari Clinic in Scarsdale, New York. “Because of the slow resolution of post surgical swelling, the ultimate results following liposuction usually require 12 to 16 weeks to become fully apparent. Liposuction of the thighs, while improving the silhouette, does not necessarily eliminate the subtle “puckering” of the skin that is often referred to as cellulite. Rare problems that can potentially occur with any surgical procedure include infections, bleeding, and nerve injury.”

“Liposuction does not treat cellulite and in fact often ends up making the cellulite more prominent,” adds Dr. Shah. “Mesotherapy, however, treats cellulite directly and results in a smoother skin surface. It also spot reduces fat in specific areas, like ‘love handles.’ The fat deposits flush out of specific areas and the body does not gain the weight back in other areas, which often happens after liposuction.”

Mesotherapy has been touted as the latest breakthrough for body sculpting, cellulite reduction, and skin rejuvenation. It is the practice of using microinjections of small amounts of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and herbs into the middle layer of skin, or mesoderm to deliver healing or corrective treatment to a specific area of the body.

As a non-surgical procedure, Mesotherapy, does not require hospital admission, general anesthesia, or downtime. The procedure is performed in as little as half an hour, allowing the individual to be treated and sent back to his or her normal lifestyle in a very short time.
